The Hebridean Community Garden is running a plant and seed swap. If you’re looking for some horticultural inspiration as you prepare your garden for the coming autumn, then this is the event for you. Bring along any excess plants that you’d like to get rid of or extra seeds that you are not planning on using. Don’t worry if you don’t have seeds to swap or share – we have an honesty box where you can buy new plants for your garden!

In this talk, doctoral researcher Juliette Desportes will explore the history of Galson in the nineteenth-century. From the 1840s to the 1860s, Galson was gradually cleared, and the final clearance of the village in 1863 was to be the start of a 60 year long fight for the re-settlement of the township. Based on primary research collected during a three-month internship with the Urras, Juliette’s talk will delve into this often forgotten episode of Scottish history

Local artist Margaret Stevenson will be painting in St Moluag's, trying to capture the atmosphere of this ancient place of worship. Would you like to do the same? Come along and try. With a few minutes' instruction from Margaret you could make your own postcard-sized watercolour painting of St Moluag's. All the materials will be supplied.

In this interactive workshop, doctoral researcher Ryan Dziadowiec will guide participants to dig into the etymology and history of dùthchas, as well as contribute to mapping out how the word is understood in the community today. Dùthchas is a powerful word with multiple meanings – and Gaels used it to campaign for change during the Land Struggle. As the word gains traction in the Gàidhealtachd yet again, what kind of future can we imagine together in which ‘being of the earth’ takes a central place as we fight against the climate (and language) crisis?

Join Shona Morrison and Shona MacLellan for a guided walk from Eoropie playpark carpark, along the coast to the Butt of Lewis and back (5.5km), keeping an eye out for birds, cetaceans and any nice flowers that can be seen. Shona MacLellan will be on hand to let you know all the names in Gaelic and if you are a keen photographer she can give you hints and tips on how to capture wildlife at its best. If you have some, we recommend you bring your own binoculars and camera.

St Moluag’s has stood in the landscape for many centuries as a sign of the presence of God in our midst, and is the oldest working place of worship on the island. Come along at 9.30pm on Thursday for a short service of prayer and reflection by candlelight.

Come along and help with some habitat management at Loch Stiapabhat. One of the methods for removing the old vegetation will be by using the traditional scythe. Vegetation is removed in front of the hide to make it easier for visitors to see birds and to allow fresh growth next spring.
